FULL DAY TOUR: SPITZKOPPE TOUR (07:30 - 17:00)
Your guide will collect you at your accommodation with a 4x4 vehicle. You will make your way to the “Martin Luther” steam powered tractor just outside town, where you shall receive a brief description of Swakopmund and Namibia’s history. The actual destination – the Spitzkoppe (the “Matterhorn” of Namibia) – will be reached after a 130km drive. Since your guide gives detailed information on the Spitzkoppe and its majestic surroundings you will hardly realize the distance traveled. After a short visit to the local Damara people, you will visit the famous rock paintings created some centuries ago by the Bushmen (San) who were the first inhabitants of this area. Another highlight of this excursion is the fascinating flora at the Spitzkoppe including the butter tree (Cyphosremma), bushman tree (Myrothamnus) as well as different aloes and acacias. Sometimes klipspringer and rock dassies can be sighted on the rocks. Spitzkoppe, with its spectacular rock formations, is every photographer’s paradise. On your way back to Swakopmund, you can use the opportunity to ask your guide any questions about this unique and beautiful landscape.
