Experience farm life in Namibia! Omaha Guestfarm is situated at the foot of Mt Etjo only a 2-hour drive NW from Windhoek. Mt Etjo is a geologically unique feature of the Namibian landscape dating to the time of Gondwanaland, 500 million years ago. The mountain is a narrow plateau 16 km long with a maximum width of 3 km, standing 2086 m above sea level at its highest point.
Omaha is an operational cattle farm, but blessed with a variety of free-ranging game species. Often seen are Warthog, Kudu, Oryx, Damara Dik-dik, Steenbok, Duiker, Jackal, Suricates, Ostrich, Bat-eared fox, Hares, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Springbok, Hartebeest, and Porcupine. Sheep and goats also are farmed, but must be guarded from predators (leopard, cheetah, caracal, jackals, and raptors) by an Anatolian Sheppard dog.
Five earthen dams have been built on the farm to retard erosion caused by the enormous amount of water rushing down Mt Etjo after rainfalls. The dams provide drinking water for game as well as for the domestic animals on the farm. Wildlife and a very diverse bird fauna, including waterfowl, are attracted to the impoundments.
Omaha has 5 double rooms, varying in furnishings and features….and price! However, all have private bathrooms. Our featured rooms are the “Tower Room” and the “Pool Room”. Rates are for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast. Meals are “farm style” and generally feature game and vegetables prepared in the traditional Afrikaans/German manner common to Namibian farms. However, our kitchen also offers Indian or Halal meals for discerning guests (must be ordered and paid for in advance).
