News from Namibia Country Lodges (17.12.2010)
Developments in Khaudum (Tsumkwe Lodge): The long-awaited developments in Khaudum National Park are in the final planning stages. The Khaudum North Complex consists of three Conservancies with whom NCL has a Joint Venture. The focus is to promote Tourism and create much needed employment within the Conservancies and to protect one of Namibia last wilderness areas. Renovation work on both existing campsites should kick off at the start of February 2011. The aim is to keep the nine campsites rustic to blend in with the natural wilderness area but to provide communal ablution facilities with hot and cold running water and flush toilets. Each site will have its own "braai" area and grid with a water point. Bonus - no electricity for the true nature lover! Estimated completion is about end of April, weather permitting and provided the elephants don't pop in for a look and disrupt the work. The second phase will be construction of both Sikereti and Khaudum luxury bush camps. Both camps will have eight en-suite tented units on decks and one central main area. The date of completion is difficult to estimate considering the challenging environment of the Khaudum, building logistics and strict environmental guidelines we need to adhere to while building.
Namushasha Country Lodge: Is enjoying tremendous success with most of their game drives. They are encountering large herds of elephant, buffalo and a variety of antelope species on a daily basis. It still remains a birders paradise though, especially with all the migrants returning with the rainy season.
Auob Country Lodge: Hosted their first dinner on the dunes under the Southern Cross. Guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the red Kalahari sand while feasting on wholesome farm style cooking. The venue even has a little corner allocated in case "nature calls" Stargazing, under the clear night skies, is a popular activity to round off the evening.
Solitaire Country Lodge: Camels Namibia has agreed to permanently base their six adult camels and two calves at Solitaire Country Lodge. Some guests find the camels amusing, while others dare to take a short ride. Camels Namibia hopes to offer longer day rides, combined with a sleep-out option by early next year.
Twyfelfontein Country Lodge: Renovated their bathrooms and painted the inside of all their rooms. They are systematically converting all their beds to ¾ beds with new mattresses and linen. New cotton duvets will replace the blankets. We should have new images ready by February.

Refurbishment notice for Kempinski Mokuti Lodge (19.11.2010)
Please be informed that Kempinski Mokuti Lodge will start the refurbishment on 98 guest rooms at Kempinski Mokuti Lodge as of the 28.11.10. The Lodge will not close down for the time of the renovation works and all bookings will be honoured and are confirmed as by their reservations department. The refurbishment will run next to the normal operations and will have minimal impact on the every day operation. The Lodge is very wide spread and though it is possible to take complete room blocks out of operation, thus guests will hardly notice that work on the rooms are done. During the Low Season Phase (December 2010 to end February 2011) they will work on 30 rooms at a time and these new rooms will be available as of February/March. From March onwards they will renovate only 10 rooms at a time and as soon as each room block is finished, these rooms will be integrated into operations again and the next 10 rooms will be worked on. The room blocks, which is being worked on will be fenced off, so hardly any construction work is visible for guests. All rooms will be fully refurbished by October 2011. They will renovate all rooms of the Deluxe, Safari Club and Safari Suite category.

Kempinski Mokuti Lodge receives 2010 SALI Award (07.09.2010)
Namibia Reservations has been informed of the following: Almost 2 years later, parking lots in front of chalets are a thing of the past. Pathways are easy and a pleasure to navigate and the resort boast luscious gardens, water features and a beautiful landscape offering you a sense of arrival... It comes as no surprise Kempinski Mokuti Lodge was awarded the 2010 SALI Award of Excellence in the category Landscape Construction. The South African Landscapers Institute (SALI) was formed in 1984 by a group of progressive landscapers, all with the mission to improve the image and standing of the landscape industry. Project Mokuti kicked off in June 2008 with the desire to create an ecological landscape that would blend the resort into the Etosha Bushfeld and is what has been achieved.

Game viewing at the Onguma Game Reserve (23.08.2010)
Onguma Game Reserve has sent Namibia Reservations the following information: Game viewing is incredible at Onguma at the moment! The waterholes at the camps are very busy and there is a lot of game to see. A few days ago, something very exiting happened at Onguma Tented Camp: While the guests were enjoying a pre-dinner drink, an impala nearly became dinner for a lion. The impala was chased right through the lounge - luckily the lion did not follow. However the impala did become dinner later for a leopard. It was caught at the entrance to the staff houses. Yesterday a black rhino was spottet close to the Onguma Plains Camp (Fort) and a leopard at Aasvoel Nes (a waterhole close to the Fort) Enjoy the game viewing experience at the Onguma Game Reserve.

Brigadoon Guesthouse no longer offers the selfcatering apartments (30.06.2010)
For the last four years we have been pleased and proud to offer you, short term leasing, for your self catering clients. As many of you know ( and some of you have seen ) - we have 2 luxurious (2 x bedroom) seafacing apartments in Swakopmund - literally 30 meters from the main beach. The other (3x bed) is just a little further away - 200 m from the main beach - not sea facing. Unfortunately, the Body Corporates of these Apartment blocks have recently withdrawn their approval and consent, so the Muncipality of Swakopmund will now not register these beautiful apartments. So this category of accommodation is no longer available to visitors or local residents, for any period less than three months. However, we can happily with confidence and pride - remind you that Brigadoon Boutique B and B ( completely revamed and modernised last year) has the same quality and service as ever before and our 7 luxurious en suite rooms are still available. We are now in our 15th year of operation. Our positon - in a garden setting, in the centre of town, and in walking distance of all facilities; shops, banks, PO etc is probably the best in Swakopmund.

Mazambala Island Lodge road update (16.06.2009)
The road from the tar road to the campsite where we normally pick up guests, is accessible only by 4xWheel Drive vehicles. If your clients drive a 4xWheel Drive vehicle, they should proceed to the camp site for pick up by boat. If they are not, the should proceed to the police check point for pick up.
All other vehicles and buses, must go to the police check point for pick up until further notice.
As of this morning the water level has stabilized and may even be receding. I will keep you posted.
The recent heavy rains together with the floodwaters from Angola have temporarily flooded our road from the main tar road to our campsite where we normally pick up our guests by boat. Until further notice, we will pick up all guests by boat at the police check point on the Kwando River. We have stationed an attendant at the check point who is in radio contact with the lodge. He will notify us of any arrival so that we can dispatch a boat for the pickup. In order to save time, we would suggest that guests try to call us about 20 minutes before arrival at the check point so as to limit any waiting time for the boat.
Our telephone nos. are 066-686-041 or cell phone 081-219-4884.
The lodge is fine and dry!

NWR enters into a Public Private Partnership (22.07.2008)
At a glittering event on the 17th July 2008, Namibia Wildlife Resorts entered into a number of Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreements, for the upgrade and management of Daan Viljoen, Von Bach, Reho Spa, the four camp sites in the West Coast Recreation Area, as well as the management of all the petrol stations at NWR Camps. NWR has, since then, upgraded a number of its key facilities (Okaukuejo, Halali, Namutoni, Waterberg and Terrace Bay), as well as developed a brand new camp in the Namib-Naukluft Park, the exclusive Sossus Dune Lodge. A second exciting new facility, the exclusive and eco-friendly Onkoshi Camp, is currently under development in the Etosha National Park, opening on 1 September 2008. A number of PPP opportunities were therefore advertised during August 2007, inviting expressions of interest from both local and international investors interested in becoming development and management partners. The advertisement was clear on a number of issues: that there would be no alienation of state assets; that the interest of current NWR employees at these facilities would be safeguarded; and that Black Economic Empowerment involvement was a pre-requisite. After rigorous scrutiny and presentation of proposals, partners were selected and approved by the NWR Board of Directors.

Your clients will no longer have to drive to town for dinner as they can just use the elevator and be transported to a different world where they can dine in comfort and style with food and views to match.
We are unfortunately starting immediately with the changing of the old breakfast room into 4 x twin rooms and it is anticipated that construction will be completed by mid June. The next 10 days will be used for the braking out of existing walls and it will obviously be a noisy process but we will try our best to limit the noise to the periods which our guests are out exploring or taking part in activities. The contractor will operate between 0800 and 1700 daily and no work will be done over weekends. All the construction will take place internally and therefore there should be limited or no inconvenience to your clients once the walls have been demolished.

Mokuti Lodge is being upgraded (08.04.2008)
The three month upgrade at Mokuti Lodge has started last week. The first phase will be the complete revamp of the main building, including reception area, lounge, restaurant and kitchen. During this process, the admin offices and reception have been moved to the conference centre, and all meals will be served in the boma restaurant. We are also using the boma kitchen while the main kitchen is being renovated. We will keep the disturbance to an absolute minimum, and guests should not really be inconvenienced during this period, except for not having access to the main building. The staff and management on the lodge are doing their utmost to attend to every wish of the guests. Should you receive the isolated complaint, we do apologize for this, and would ask you to bring this to our attention immediately, so that we can try to rectify the situation, if possible while the guest is still at the lodge.
The next phase which will start within the next two weeks, includes the soft upgrade of the rooms and the landscaping of the garden. Again, we will try to keep the disturbance to a minimum. The rooms’ upgrade will not involve any construction work, except for the installation of a vanity shelf here and there, a peep hole on the doors, etc. The majority of work will be a thorough soft refurb of all the rooms. We will obviously do this in rooms which are not occupied during this period, but it will then happen, that some guests will stay in the upgraded rooms, while others still stay in the standard rooms. We do apologize for this inconvenience, and would ask you to remind the guests, that they are not paying for upgraded rooms yet. I know this will cause a bit of dissatisfaction with guests staying in the “old” rooms, but we will obviously also deal with this on the ground, and explain the situation to guests, so that they are fully informed of the process.
The garden landscaping will be done mostly through the time, when guests are on their game drives, and should thus not be a big problem.
We sincerely apologize, should some guests be inconvenienced and assure you that we will do everything in our power to keep guests happy and satisfied at all times.

Midgard Lodge 08.04.2008
Good news on this property – it has been decided to upgrade Midgard. The main focus will be the extension of the conference facilities of the lodge, to align it to the high demand in seminars, workshops, team building sessions and incentives, but also wedding receptions and small, medium and large functions. A major face lift is planned, and the addition of advanced conference equipment, as well as an additional highly advanced conference room. All public areas will obviously be included in this project. There will be a short, medium and long-term phase, but within 6 months the first signs should be clearly visible.

Two New Border Post Crossings Opened (26.10.2007)
Two new border crossing points have been opened by Namibia and South Africa within a week: Mata Mata in Namibia’s southeast and Sendelingsdrift in the southwest.
The crossing point at Mata Mata, east of Koës, enables travellers in Namibia to drive into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park without lengthy detours. This cross-border park, shared by South Africa and Botswana, is known for its characteristic Kalahari scenery and wildlife, which includes lion, oryx antelope, springbok and ostrich. Kalahari Anib Lodge in Gondwana Kalahari Park is situated halfway between Windhoek and Mata Mata.
The border crossing point Sendelingsdrift across the Gariep (Orange) River, south of Rosh Pinah, connects the northern and southern part of the |Ai|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, shared by Namibia and South Africa. The Richtersveld is characterised by the Succulent Karoo which is seen as the most diverse desert on earth. Quite recently, in late June, the area was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. Both Gondwana Cañon Park and Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park are a suitable starting point for excursions into Richtersveld.

Beach Lodge (15.08.2007)
It is with great excitement but also with trepidation that we announce the immediate commencement of the final phase of our Construction Program.
During this phase we will construct an entirely new kitchen and a fine dining a la carte restaurant on the second floor which will offer a stunning 150 degree view of the Atlantic Ocean to patrons. The restaurant will provide seating for 60 patrons and will have lots of glass to provide the best views possible.
The current breakfast room will be converted into 4 x standard twin rooms which should improve the availability of beds to a degree.
It is anticipated that the entire phase will be completed by mid December 2007.
We will start off with some prep work on the ground floor or rather on the terrace of the current breakfast room for approximately 2 weeks and then move to the second floor to complete the kitchen and restaurant. Only once this stage has been reached will we start with the changes to the current breakfast room.
We are doing everything in our power to limit any inconvenience to our guests and the contractors are only allowed to be noisy between 0800 and 1700 daily, with no work being done on Sundays. The safety of our guests will always be a priority and construction areas will be closed off for this reason.
We know and fully understand that any construction is seen in a negative light by most but we trust that you will understand our position and we can assure you that it is all done to be able to provide your clients with an even better experience.

The Geluk Airstip (02.08.2007)
The Geluk Runway is situated near the Sesriem area. The condition of the runway at Geluk has been a topic of discussion amongst aviation companies and pilots for a long time now. The runway has already caused incidents, whereby aircraft left the runway and were damaged as well as unnecessary damage to props, tyres and brakes. The risk of damage to the aircraft is too high to continue with flights into Geluk runway. This is due to the huge loose and sharp stones on the runway and the soft patches that are found at several places on the runway. Until the Geluk runway is sufficiently repaired / upgraded by the responsible people will light aircrafts be able to land there.
Aircrafts will now land the Witwaters airstip until further notice. All Desert Air aircraft will land at Sossusvlei Lodge Airfield (FYSU) and transfers to the Kulala Lodges and Le Mirage can be done from FYSU where other facilities also exist.
For aircraft landing at FYSU, the normal landing fee will apply.

Sossusvlei Lodge and the weather in Namibia (31.07.2007)
The winter weather in Namibia is not over yet. There is a cold front coming up from the south -western Cape, but not to worry. The Sossusvlei lodge is prepared and the guests will enjoy the hot water. They are happy to announce that all but six bathrooms are renovated. The last few rooms will be done towards the end of August, beginning of September. The delay is due to the extreme tourism high season they are currently experiencing.
The bathrooms all have a new light coloured finish. There is a shower that is open plan and suited for persons in wheel chairs. Other showers feature high quality clear glass panels.

Kalahari Game Lodge (18.07.2007)
The Kalahari Game Lodge will be closed as from 1 September 2007 for renovations and expansions. We realize that this announcement may come as a surprise and most likely as a great disappointment to you, and we would like to explain the background and reason for this decision so that you can at least understand why we are doing this and what to expect in the future.
With the current capacity of 8 rooms and 4 campsites compared to the high running costs, such as a 500km return trip to the nearest town for supplies, the lodge is economically not viable.
From a business perspective, the tourism business unit of Kalahari Game Lodge can only operate profitably if we maintain much higher occupancy levels than what is currently the case.
With the opening of the Mata-Mata gate now officially scheduled for 13 October 2007, we expect a sharp rise in tourists and our plans are to expand the lodge to cater for the increased demand causing us to have to close the lodge for renovations and expansions.
We cannot give an indication of the re-opening date at this stage.

Ombinda Country Lodge (03.07.2007)
The main building of Ombinda Country Lodge burnt down last night. This means that our entire lapa hosting the restaurant and bar area burnt down.
Luckily the fire did not spread and no one got hurt. All our rooms are still in perfect condition. Many of you have already made bookings for the high season. Please be assured that you DO NOT need to cancel any bookings and rebook your clients somewhere else. All guests will still be able to stay comfortably in their rooms and use the other Lodge facilities.
In the mean time we have build up a restaurant setting in our conference hall. All guests will therefore still receive all their meals etc. as has been pre-booked since the kitchen has not burned down either. This conference hall is very big, so no guests will be inconvenienced here either when using this restaurant.
We have already started our clean up process today and will start rebuilding the entire area as soon as next week. We are busy drawing up plans for the area and we should have the building finished approximately in 3 months time.
We thank you for your continued support and understanding in this difficult time.

We are very glad to say that SanDüne Lodge has upgraded some of its facilities and we would like to bring this under your attention.
Tented accommodation:
We have upgraded our tents with solar-light panels (out of sight), but you will still experience the bush-atmosphere. We have also upgraded from one double tent to 3 double en-suite units and 3 twins.
The bush-tents have been separated into 3 waterhole camps – we provide 3 en-suite tents at one waterhole (max 6 guests) to provide more privacy and space for each guest. Because of the far distances of the tents, you will experience your privacy and fantastic wildlife views at the waterholes.
Apart from the other 2 waterhole camps, our 3rd waterhole with 3 bush tents is under construction and will be ready in due time.
Bush Lodge – Private house accommodation:
We are very glad to say that the Bush Lodge construction is going according to schedule and will be ready 1 August 2007.
No guests will be sharing the lodge when occupied – other than a group booking.
The private lodge house has been upgraded with self-catering or full board facilities. The 5 bedrooms have been changed to 3 en-suite bedrooms. Each room will have a bath and shower with wildlife views. This will provide more privacy and space for each guest. The house will have solar-lights and the kitchen will have gas implements.
1 Honeymoon en-suite room (shower and WC).
2 twin bed en-suite rooms (shower and WC).
All rooms have wildlife views.
There is one 2 storey patio and comfortable chairs with views on wildlife
All rooms have solar lights, no electric points, mosquito nets & room mirrors.
All rooms have room safes.
A viewing deck in the sand with a fireplace at the main entrance overlooking a waterhole.
The 3rd room is our honeymoon suite. A 2 storey high room with fantastic views over the entire game farm. It is built on a sand dune. Our chef will prepare meals at the bush lodge and it’s not necessary to drive to the main buildings for meals. If you would like to make use of the self-catering facility, we will also be glad to do your shopping for you.

Divava Okavango Lodge & Spa (01.06.2007)
The Suclabo Lodge has be taken over by Leading Lodges of Africa and is now Divava Okavango Lodge & Spa. The lodge was a hive of activity over the last few weeks, as final preparations to welcome the first guests the the end of April, were made. Truckloads filled with state of the art equipment, furniture and fittings arrived at the Lodge, and all and sundry pitched in to unload ad unpack as fast as possible.
The gardens quickly took shape, and new pathways and walkways were created between the lodge’s varios facilities.
The Divava Okavango Lodge & Spa will again be fondly referred to as the “Little Paradise”. The Lodge is on the banks of the Okavango River, has already created considerable interest, and will be a welcome addition as an upmarket property in the area.

Flowers Galore in Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park (22.05.2006)
Experience the 'Namaqualand of Namibia' from June to September! Chances are good that the Succulent Karoo Desert southwest of Aus will have a fantastic flowering season this year. During April, which is the ideal month for the germination of winter annuals, we had three times more rain than on average. Pending follow-up rainfalls, flowers will be in abundance from mid-June till September. This landscape explodes into an expansive carpet of yellow and violet flowers after the winter rains. The blossoming desert is a deeply moving natural phenomenon which draws thousands of visitors to Namaqualand on South Africa’s west coast each year. The same can be witnessed in the area south-west of Aus.
To discover the delights of the Namib and Succulent Karoo Desert, Klein-Aus Vista/Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park is ideally located for a 2-3 day stopover between Sossusvlei and the Fish River Canyon.
Klein-Aus Vista offers various options for guided excursions. Or go for a walk on our well-marked hiking trails in the mountains: different trails, for intermediate to advanced hikers, take between 2 and 5 hours. A choice of unique accommodation facilities at separate locations, to suit any traveller’s budget, makes Klein-Aus Vista a definite must on a trip to the south.
In fact guests are spoilt for choice: there is Eagle's Nest Lodge with chalets in the lap of nature; the Desert Horse Inn in walking distance of the restaurant and reception; 'Geisterschlucht' dormitory for self-catering and there is the camping site.

Improvements at Immenhof Guest Farm (24.04.2006)
We have made some changes to the garden and pool area and our guests can now enjoy the peace and quiet of the farm in our lovely "revamped" garden and BRAND NEW salt water pool!
During May 2006 we will also redecorate and upgrade our rooms - all should be finished by the end of June 2006. We have planned all changes carefully so this will not cause any inconvenience to our guests.
With the lovely rains we had this season, Immenhof is a lush green paradise! The game viewing is (naturally )not that good, but the scenery remains breathtaking!
Due to the avgas shortages countrywide, we can't offer our scenic flights, days tours and transfer flights as usual, but as soon as the supply of avgas arrives again, we 're back in the air!!
The unique setting of Immenhof covers a diverse landscape ranging from open plains to thorn bush savannah, along dry river beds winding through solid granite outcrops. This provides for a multitude of activities one can attend to pass the day.

Heavy rains at Fish River Canyon (Canyon Nature Park 21.04.2006)
We had 55mm of rain (again) last night. We recommend all tourists to tour Namibia in 4x4's for the next 3 months at least, until the Roads Authority can do repairs.
The Fish River will furthermore be in flood, which means that the hikers will not be able to cross at normal points, but take detours. Louis will discuss the alternative routes with you at the farm.
Regarding getting to us : you will be able to get to the neighbor, who offered to shuttle guests to the Farmhouse. No-one was prepared for rain so late in the season, so everywhere in Namibia it is the same story with access. When you arrive at the neighbor (Mr Niewoudt) please ask him to phone us and alert us on your arrival - we will meet him halfway between the two farms, at the river.

PRESS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PROTEA HOTELS NAMIBIA ACQUIRES NEW PROPERTY
The newly formed Protea Hotels Nambia, a joint venture between Protea Hotels and United Africa Hospitality Group, has announced its first acquisition, namely The Zambezi River Lodge. Acquired by the United Africa Group, it’s to be managed by Protea Hotels Nambia, and will be one of the properties that make up a tourist route in the Northern regions of Namibia. “It is our vision to create a tourist route in the North of the Country,” said Brian Rubenstein, Director of Protea Hotels Namibia. This acquisition will bring the total number of properties in the Protea Hotel Namibia portfolio to seven.
Situated in the Caprivi, in the north-eastern extremity of Namibia, this property, which boasts almost a kilometer of prime river frontage, will undergo a refurbishment to upgrade the current facilities. “This property is ideally located at the gateway to the Victoria Falls and Zimbabwe as well as the Chobe National Park in Botswana,” explained Rubenstein.
The twenty-six bedroomed lodge is set amongst lush tropical gardens overlooking the mighty Zambezi River. Accommodation extends to camping facilities for leisure travelers on a budget. The location is ideal for guests to enjoy a range of leisure activities like cruising and river fishing, and allows easy access to a nearby golf course. In addition to leisure activities, conference groups of up to 100 delegates can be catered for.
The area is populated with scattered settlements of subsistence farmers cultivating Mahangu and other crops, tending their cattle, or living off freshwater fish. Over the past years crafts in Caprivi have become an important income generator for the rural community.

Each unit is fitted with a convertible kitchenette and own BBQ area.
