HALF DAY TOUR: MINERALS OF THE NAMIB (09:00 - 13:00 / 13:00-17:00)

After having been picked up at your accommodation your guide will transport you out of Swakopmund to discover some of Namibia’s unique minerals. Your first stop will be the old marble mine, where the most beautiful “free swimming” quartz crystals are found. The tour continues towards the Rssing Mountain and an old lead mine. Your guide will circle the mountain and show you some open mineral pits. Because of the versatility of its ecology, Namibia is a paradise for mineral lovers. During your tour the guide will point out interesting geological and botanical aspects of the environment. Many different minerals can be found in the vicinity of Swakopmund, especially in the Rössing Mountain area. Besides rose quartz aragonite, chalcedony, jasper, cornelian and glimmer, a variety of other minerals are found. In 1910 heliodor, a bright yellowgreen variety of beryl was first found. After a visit to the rose quartz mine where you have the opportunity to collect beautiful pieces of thulite and sun stone (aventurine feldspar). At 13h00 you will be returned to your accommodation. The tour could also be booked in the afternoons between 13h00 and 17:00.
