Mazambala is situated amidst lush tropical vegetation on an island in the flood plain of the Kwando River. The bungalows are constructed the traditional way with brick, reeds and thatched roofs. All are equipped with mosquito nets and ceiling fans and they are regularly sprayed with an odourless insecticide against mosquitoes. A thatched restaurant/bar on 2.5 meter high stilts affords stunning views of the vast floodplain and serves excellent meals and ice cold drinks. In addition, a 15 meter long swimming pool adds to the enjoyment of a stay at Mazambala.
A high look-out tower, with two 50 sq. meter viewing platforms, offers a 360 degree panoramic view over the vast flood plain of the Kwando River. It is perfect for having sundowners while watching African sunsets. During winter months elephants, buffaloes, hippos and lechwes are regularly seen from the tower. It is situated along the riverfront of the Kwando River. There are 7 large camp sites and two ablution blocks with toilets and hot and cold running water for showers. Campers are welcome to visit the lodge, 2 km away, to enjoy a drink, a meal at the restaurant, or to participate in any of the activities offered by the lodge.
