Although tourism development in Namibia's south-eastern region slowed down in 1990 following the closure of the Mata Mata gate leading into South Africa's Kalahari Gemsbok Park, it is nevertheless an area well worth visiting to experience the magnificent red dunes of the Kalahari and meet its traditional inhabitants, the Bushmen (as they are most commonly referred to in Namibia), or San people.
