FULL DAY TOUR: DESERT & DOLPHINS (07:30 - 17:00)

At 07H30 you will be picked up at your accommodation by your guide and you will be taken to Walvis Bay. You join a boat cruise where you can see seals, dolphins, turtles and the occasional whale. Light lunch and sparkling wine is served on the boat. After the cruise you join your guide on an afternoon THE DESERT IS ALIVE TOUR, the only real desert tour by Charly Grtel (1966). On your way out of town your guide will give you valued information on early colonial history. Along the course of the Swakop river bed you will pass several crop and leisure orientated farms. After a few kilometers the road ends and the tour enters the rugged Moon landscape. In this desolate area your guide will lead you right to the legendary Welwitschia mirabilis. Perfectly adapted plants like the Flowering Stones and a variety of Lichens are growing here under harsh conditions. Interesting rock features tell the eventful geological history of the canyons. With some luck you may see ostrich, klipspringer, springbuck, jackal and a few of the endemic bird species. Drinks will be available to refresh you all along. On the return route one travels down the Swakop River canyon, passing the old police and customs post at Goanikontes. A breathtaking view of the entire Moon landscape awaits you now. On the way back to Swakopmund a detour to the dune belt will round off an unforgettable desert experience. You may aspect to see creatures such as: chameleons, lizards, geckos, snakes, spiders and much more! Your guide will drop you at your accommodation or if you wish, somewhere in town.
